33 Million Demigods not 33 Koti:- Scriptural Proof

33 Koti demigods Disproved

 

So nowadays on social media I have heard that there are not 33 crore demigods but 33 koti. They told me the meaning of word 33 koti means 33 types of God. But according to Shastras, according to Srila Prabhupada,founder acharya of ISCKON and  other great Saints there are 33 million demigods. So today I will give you proof of 33 million demigods. These proofs are based on Vedic texts I’m not saying anything from my side but as I have done a deep research on this topic and before saying anything about me, please read the full blog and then comment if you find anything wrong, let’s begin.

 

 

So let’s see what does the Vishnu Puran 2.12.7 says:-

 

“Thirty-six thousand three hundred and thirth-three divinities drink the lunar ambrosia”

 

Here it is clearly mentioned that many demigods drank the lunar ambrosia. Lunar ambrosia is the amrit. So it is not the total number of gods, but the total number of Demi gods who were drinking amrit. So it proves that there there are more gods than 33 koti. Let’s look at another example from Skanda Purana verses

“If people bow down and worship this goddess with devotion, it is the same as though she has been worshipped along with thirty-three crores of goddesses” – (1.2.47.48).

 

B. “Then thirty-three crores of Devas emanating from the rays of the flames of Sambhu in the fiery form came forth” – (1.3a.6.7).

 

C. “The Devas were thirty-three crores in number; the Ganas were one crore and two hundred thousand; there were nine crores of Chamundas and one crore Bhairavis” – (4.2.62.99).

 

D. “There are thirty-three crores of Devas stationed in heaven. All of them came there and celebrated that auspicious rite for him” – (6.1.142.26).

 

But in Vedas only 33 gods are mentioned. How is it possible that somewhere 33 crore and somewhere 33 koti. So let me clear this confusion now. Actually,First read this verse from Shrimad Bhagavatam.

 

“Sarūpā, the wife of Bhūta, gave birth to the ten million Rudras, of whom the eleven principle Rudras were Raivata, Aja, Bhava, Bhīma, Vāma, Ugra, Vṛṣākapi, Ajaikapāt, Ahirbradhna, Bahurūpa and Mahān. Their associates, the ghosts and goblins, who are very fearful, were born of the other wife of Bhūta.”

 

This verse clears the confusion. Here it is written that there are many Rudra’s but out of which 11 are major and the same way there are 33 million demigods but out of which 33 are major. 33 crore demigods are manifestations of 33 koti demigods as per Vedas. At the end of the day, it doesn’t matter that there are 33 crore or 33 koti. The fact that matter is your relationship with the divine.

So, I just need it to clear this confusion because many were fighting over this topic and I want to give them scriptural proves that actually there are 33,00,00,000 demigods but main are 33. Just I have some other arguments also that if there are only 33 demigods, they do not fit other gods such as Ganesha and the goddesses.They have no place in these 33 koti demigods. Also, We come to know that the demigods lived with their families, so in 33 koti demigods no family members are mentioned. And many ancient temples built by Ramanujacharya and Madhavacharya have statues of more than 33 koti gods.  So hence it is proved that there are 33,00,00,000 demigods but 33 are major.
