Debunking Myth:- Brahma Married His Own Daughter

“Brahma married his daughter Saraswati. He started the rape culture in India.”

God Of Creation:-Brahma
Have you also heard such type of statements? And you were feeling bad and for your religion that’s Sanatan Dharam is like this and it promoted such things. But you never tried to go into the scriptures and verify them and you will never try to go and read your scriptures. So today in this blog we are going to  debunk, this myth that Brahma married his own daughter Saraswati.  We aim to debunk this myth and shed light on the true meanings of Brahma, Saraswati, and the meaning of Puranas in Sanatan Dharama.

Controversy

Allegations have been made against Sanatan Dharma, suggesting that Brahma married his daughter Saraswati and forced her into committing a heinous act. These allegations were even mentioned in Dr. B.R. Ambedkar's book, "Riddles in Hinduism."

Max Muller
While Dr. Ambedkar played a significant role in framing India's Constitution, it's important to note that his understanding of Sanatan Dharma was based on flawed English translations and biased sources, influenced by figures like Max Muller, who aimed to undermine India's culture and promote Christianity. He took help of English translations which are absolutely rubbish and wrong.

Refuting The Allegations

वाचं दुहितरं तन्वीं स्वयम्भूर्हरतीं मन:

अकामां चकमे क्षत्त: सकाम इति : श्रुतम्

“O Vidura, we have heard that Brahmā had a daughter named Vāk who was born from his body and who attracted his mind toward sex, although she was not sexually inclined towards him.”

                                                                -Srimad Bhagavatam

                                                                   3.12.28

They will just show this verse and on basis of this verse they will put their  allegations. But if I see here it is no where mentioned that he forced his daughter to do rape.

Instead something else is mentioned in further verses:-

“Thus, finding their father so deluded in an act of immorality, the sages headed by Marīci, all sons of Brahmā, spoke as follows with great respect.

O father, this performance in which you are endeavoring to complicate yourself was never attempted by any other Brahmā, nor by anyone else, nor by you in previous kalpas, nor will anyone dare to attempt it in the future. You are the supreme being in the universe, so how is it that you want to have sex with your daughter and cannot control your desire?

Even though you are the most powerful being, this act does not suit you because your character is followed for spiritual improvement by people in general.

Let us offer our respectful obeisances unto the Personality of Godhead, who, by His own effulgence, while situated in Himself, has manifested this cosmos. May He also protect religion for all goodness.

The father of all Prajāpatis, Brahmā, thus seeing all his Prajāpati sons speaking in that way, became very much ashamed and at once gave up the body he had accepted. Later that body appeared in all directions as the dangerous fog in darkness.”

-Srimad Bhagvatam 3.12.29-33.

But you might still question that such a great personality in the Trinity of Sanatan Dharma can be attracted towards sex. What is the meaning of it? But to understand this concept you need to first understand:-What is the purpose of Puranas

Purpose of Puranas

So in Sanatan dharma main books are the Vedas. But Vedas and the concept of Vedas cannot be easily understood by the common man. So the ancient Rishis decided to tell the concept of Vedas through the help of stories. So they created Puranas in which they explained us the concepts with the help of stories.  some of the stories were real and some were mythological. But not each and every story was mythological. So Puranas are meant to teach us something so that we can lead our life better. So from this very story we get to know many things, but in brief I may tell you that this Story tells us that even the greatest of the greatest yogis can be defeated by this enemy known as lust. So we should try to control our over senses  before it gets too late. The story of Brahma and Saraswati teaches us the dangers of uncontrolled desire and the need to exercise self-restraint. Also it teaches that we should never put bad eye towards our daughters and sister. I can explain this story very perfectly and in very detail, but I am not going  into the details now.

Clarification Of Marriage Of Brahma And Saraswati

After this incident, Saraswati vanished, and there is no mention of a marriage between Brahma and Saraswati in the initial story. So, those who claim that Brahma married his daughter are mistaken since there is no reference to it in this context. However, you might wonder about our traditional worship of Brahma and Saraswati. Let's clarify this point.

The mention of Brahma's marriage can be found in the “Brahmavaivartapurana”.

In this text, Brahma indeed marries Saraswati. It's crucial to understand that the Saraswati mentioned in this text is different from the one in the previous narrative. The earlier Saraswati vanished after the mentioned incident. In the Brahmavaivartapurana, Saraswati is created by Lord Vishnu and is, in fact, the daughter of Lord Vishnu. In Brahmavaivartapurana, Chapter 35, Sri Narayan states that Saraswati Devi married Brahma. This is the Saraswati Devi we worship, often referred to as "Vagheshwari" symbolizing the “one who wears the Veena” and "Shweta Varna" meaning 'wearing white.' The purana also describes the Devi holding a Veena in one hand and a book in the other, clearly depicting the Saraswati Devi we revere."

Depper Meaning of Brahma and Sarrawati

When we explore the deeper symbolism of Brahma and Saraswati, we find a profound insight. Brahma represents the essence of creation, the force behind bringing things into existence. To create anything, whether in the physical or intellectual realm, intelligence is an absolute necessity. This intelligence is embodied by Saraswati Devi.

In this context, Saraswati Devi is not merely a goddess but a personification of the intellect and wisdom required for creation. She symbolizes the creative intelligence that sparks innovation, knowledge, and enlightenment. However, a more detailed exploration of this concept is beyond the scope of our discussion here.

In unraveling the myth surrounding Brahma and Saraswati, we've explored the complexity of Hindu mythology and the significance of context and interpretation. As we conclude, it's a reminder that the rich tapestry of Hindu mythology is a source of wisdom and enlightenment. By critically examining misconceptions and gaining a deeper understanding of these stories, we can appreciate the valuable teachings they hold. I hope you liked the blog
