Debunking The Myth:- Vishnu Violated Vrinda

“Lord Vishnu raped Vrinda”

Have you also heard such type of statements? And you were feeling bad and for your religion that’s Sanatan Dharam is like this and it promoted such things. But you never tried to go into the scriptures and verify them and you will never try to go and read your scriptures. So today in this blog we are going to  debunk, this myth that Vishnu Raped Vrinda.

Controversy

So all the leftists and  liberals see our gods as rapists and they target that Vishnu raped Vrinda by showing us translation of verse 25 and 26 of Skanda Purana Vaishnav khand section 4 chapter 21

“25.Vṛndā too was extremely delighted in her mind on seeing her husband once again. Staying within the forest in his company for many days, she sported about.

26. Once at the conclusion of the sexual intercourse, she saw him in the form of Viṣṇu. Rebuking him angrily Vṛndā spoke these words:”

Understanding story

Before addressing the allegations, it's crucial to comprehend the underlying story. King Prithu sought Sage Narada's wisdom about why Lord Vishnu is worshipped along with Tulsi. Sage Narada then recounted the following tale:

In the past, Lord Shiva, in a fit of anger, directed his third eye towards Demigod Indra, intending to incinerate him. To rescue Indra, Brihaspati intervened, and Shiva cast his third eye into the ocean, from which a baby, named Jalandhar, was born. According to Brahma's boon Jalandhar would become the ocean's ruler, and only Lord Shiva could defeat him. Jalandhar eventually married Vrinda.

Trouble arose when Jalandhar attacked the demigods, who were powerless against him. They sought Lord Vishnu's assistance. Impressed by Jalandhar's valor, Vishnu granted him a boon, which Jalandhar cleverly used to have Vishnu and Lakshmi come to his home. With Vishnu by his side, Jalandhar conquered heaven.

one day Sage Narad comes there and tells Jalandhar that even if he is the king of the heavens Still the most richest  is Lord Shiva. And also he has the most beautiful Women Maa Parvati with him. So out of jealousy Jalandhar attacks Lord Shiva and tries to capture Parvati. He traps Lord Shiva with other Soldiers and goes to capture Parvati. Parvati meditates and asks Lord Vishnu what to do . Vishnu tells her that due to good deeds and Devotion of Vrinda towards her husband It is impossible to defeat Jalandhar. So Vishnu takes form of Jalandhar and Goes into the House of Jalandhar. There Vrinda does not recognise Vishnu and Vishnu in form of Jalandhar kisses Vrinda due to which her devotion to her husband abolishes and Lord Shiva defeats Jalandhar. But  when Vrinda recognises that it is Vishnu. She gives him a curse that he has,  to suffer From longing of his wife and she went into fire. Vishnu give boon to Vrinda that in her next life she will become Tulsi and will be worshipped along with Lord Vishnu.

So from this story we get the teaching that even if you are a God and even if you are working for the benefit of the world If you are doing something wrong, you have to bear the consequences just as Lord Vishnu in Form of Lord Ram had to suffer longing from his wife Sita.

But wait a second, there is no mention of rape and sexual intercourse. What is this mystery?.

Refuting Allegations

Yes, Lord Vishnu only kissed Vrinda there was no sexual intercourse but the translations showed something else and even if there was kiss doesn’t that shows lust of God??

Second question will be answered later on. But what about translations they clearly mentioned that there was sexual intercourse. So it’s a result of wrong translations. The translation which I previously mentioned was of

Now let me show you the verse

क्रदाचित्सुरतस्यांते दृष्ट्वा  विष्णु

तमेव हि। भस्य क्रोधसंयुक्ता वृन्दा वचनमन्रवीत् ४०

Here the word “surat” is translated as sexual intercourse but here it means something else the verse means that she comes to know that it was Vishnu and not Jalandhar.

Now you may again question this fact also. How do you say so? So I want to tell you that if the ancient Rishis can write”chhuman” for  The word kiss. Why can’t they write  word“sambhog” for sexual intercourse?.

Regarding a similar verse from Devi Bhagavatam (9th book, 24th chapter), English translators have once again produced an inaccurate translation:

“Thus saying, Hari, the Lord of the world, slept and then engaged in sexual intercourse with her.”

Again, it is a wrong translation. Let me show you translation of gitapress.

“हे नारद। यह कहकर जगन्नाथ रमापति श्रीहरि शय्यापर सो गये और जब उस रमणीके साथ विहार करने लगे, तब उस साध्वी तुलसीने अपने मनमें विचार करके सब कुछ जान लिया और 'तुम कौन हो ?' - ऐसा वह उनसे पूछने लगी 16-173 ।।“

Above verse in English.

“Hey Narada. Saying this, Jagannath Ramapati Shri Hari slept on the bed and when he was roaming with her, then Sadhvi Tulsi thought in her mind and knew everything and asked 'Who are you?' - she started asking him like this”

So been there is no mention of sexual intercourse, it is just a result of the wrong translations Of these rascals writers who just want to defame Sanatan Dharma

Despite these clarifications, you might still question why Lord Vishnu kissed Vrinda. It's crucial to understand that Lord Vishnu's actions were not rooted in lust but were intended to protect the chastity of many other women from Jalandhar. His act safeguarded Devi Parvati and numerous other women from the clutches of Jalandhar's tyranny. And also Vishnu is the nurturer of the world. All of us are part and parcel of him. God does “Leela”. He is the one who gave birth to sexual intercourse. His actions are beyond human desires and motives. Vishnu is not a body. Vishnu is infinite and the Supreme will not run after a normal human woman. Vishnu was having Devi Lakshmi. Who is the most beautiful woman in the whole world?. Also Lord Sri Krishna mentiones in Bhagavad Gita that he remains unaffected from Lust. Another question arises that how can the God be cursed by a normal women? Soo, Lord Vishnu accepted the curse. He did not get it. He accepted it. How can a Human give curse to God. It is Leela of God. It is just  same that child is. saying that my father slapped me, so I will do a court case against him. How can a normal human give curse to God? It is not possible, so Lord accepted curse. Because he wanted to give us the message that no one, even if he is a great God. Can runaway from the effects of karma. Whatever you sow, you will have to ripe it. This is the philosophy of Karma. But again, God is not subjected to. This Karma philosophy as Lord Krishna confirms in the bhagwat gita that he remains unaffected from effects of Karma.

 Conclusion

In conclusion, the story of Lord Vishnu, Vrinda, and Jalandhar is a tale filled with deep symbolism and profound lessons. It is essential to approach such narratives with an understanding of the nuances of translation and interpretation, as well as the broader context of Hindu mythology.

This story underscores the idea that the actions of even gods are subject to the laws of karma, highlighting the universal principle that one reaps what they sow. Lord Vishnu's actions, far from being rooted in human desires, were driven by his divine purpose and the protection of righteousness. This story serves as a reminder of the intricate relationship between the divine and the human experience, offering valuable insights into the nature of divinity and the functioning of the universe.

As we explore these myths and teachings, it is crucial to maintain a sense of respect, reverence, and a deep appreciation for the wisdom they impart. They provide an opportunity for contemplation, spiritual growth, and a deeper understanding of the complexities of the world we inhabit.
